Austin to vote on city auditor's independence
Fri Sep 5 10:49:03 2008 CST
By Crystal Hubbard
The Austin Chronicle reports on City Council's proposal to protect the city auditor from "political pressure" by changing Austin's charter. The amendment would bolster the auditor's independence if he or she were asking questions and what-not, the alt-weekly reports. It would do that by cementing a five-year term and requiring a supermajority of City Council (six out of seven members) to remove the auditor before the five-year expiration.

The amendment, known as Proposition 1, will be on the Nov. 4 ballot.
