Ding dong, a tax is dead: Texas telecom tax dies

Texans woke up a little richer last week, when HB 735 went into effect. The new law does away with the Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund tax, which had been in place since 1995. For 13 years, TIF levied a 1.25% charge on phone bills. So, say your monthly bill was $50 -- well, consider it $49.37 now.

Of course, if you happen to be getting married, you might not come out on top anytime soon, but hey -- 63 cents is still 63 cents.

Hat tip to the Tyler Morning Telegraph for bringing this to our attention.
