Texas Watchdog has posted two new pieces by reporter Matt Pulle: How GOP political consultant Bryan Eppstein is playing both sides of the fence in Fort Worth politics, and how one of Eppstein's clients, state Sen. Kim Brimer, is fighting in court to throw off a Democratic challenger.
Eppstein, Texas Watchdog found, has been doing work for both the Fort Worth city firefighters' union as well as for Brimer. Brimer's a longtime lawmaker -- "a white-haired, cigar-chomping Republican right out of central casting," Pulle writes -- who has a serious battle on his hands from Democratic challenger Wendy Davis. The firefighters have taken it upon themselves to sue to get Davis off the ballot in the November elections -- convenient for Brimer, huh? It's just a coincidence, a spokesman for the state Democratic Party said, with his tongue firmly in his cheek.
Texas Watchdog is a news Web site and training center that scrutinizes the actions of government agencies, bureaucracies and politicians in Texas. It is an independent, nonpartisan entity founded on the belief that our American democracy depends on transparency in government.
