What have McAllen officials being doing in Germany on public business? Some folks in McAllen would like to know.

McAllen's economic development agency is suing the state attorney general to try to keep closed some records the AG says are public, The McAllen Monitor reports. The Monitor asked this summer for access to records pertaining to officials' trips to Germany as part of an apparent effort to land an automaking plant. When the econ folks coughed up only a censored version of the documents, the Monitor sued, and AG Greg Abbott weighed in on the paper's side. (Yep, that's the Brandenburg Gate over on the left. "Ich bin ein Berliner." "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall.")
