Bloggers are buzzing with debate about the bizarre homophobia survey handed out recently to employees of the Dallas County Sheriff's Office. There's also some discussion of Sheriff Lupe Valdez, who is running against Republican challenger Lowell Cannaday.
On to the blogs:
Dallas Voice, a well-respected gay newspaper, asks if yours truly is a tool of Cannaday. Full disclosure: This is not the first time I've been called a tool.
Posters on Frontburner, the widely-popular D Magazine blog, largely ridiculed the survey and the sheriff.
Tom McGregor on Dallas Blog takes a look at Lupe Valdez's Facebook page, while mentioning our post on the ACLU of Texas.
The Dallas Morning News' Rod Dreher, who along with my former colleague, Jim Schutze, is one of the most well-read writers in the city, asks on the paper's opinion blog if the Resource Center, who administered the survey, got paid for their work. Cece Cox, one of their directors, told me "no," but we'll be submitting a public records request to find out for sure.
Finally, the blogger SocraticGadfly has posted critical comments on coverage of the survey both here and on Frontburner. We suspect--and hope--he'll post something on his site soon. Regardless, he runs a good blog. Check it out.
