These eyes cry every night for you.
These arms long to hold you again.
The hurtin’s on me, yeah,
But I will never be free, no, my baby, no, no.
You gave a promise to me, yeah, and you broke it, you broke it. Oh, no.
-- "These Eyes" by the Guess Who
We here at Texas Watchdog have been a wee bit critical of Dallas attorney and Democratic financier Fred Baron. And could you really blame us? It wasn't just that he paid to fly John Edward's kooky mistress from coast to coast to elude the tabloids so that the candidate could continue his quixotic presidential run while his wife was dealing with cancer. It was how he lied about all of it, or, perhaps more charitably, misremembered nearly every key detail that shed light on his shadowy actions.
But, in hindsight, all we needed to know about Fred Baron is that he likes lame classic rock. Yesterday, while reading Robert Wilonsky on Unfair Park, we learned that the extraordinarily wealthy trial lawyer has arranged to have the Guess Who and the Moody Blues play at his Christmas party. Really? Was Foghat not available? And to think all this time we thought establishment Republicans had lousy taste in music.
