Court fight continues over House District 105 recount; partisan control of House at stake

Twenty votes are in doubt and not much is at stake -- oh, you know, just the control of the Texas legislature and a good chunk of the direction of the entire state for the next two years -- in the court case going on in Dallas County over House District 105.

The Dems want a recount in that case, in which a Republican incumbent won by just 20 votes. If the Republican victory holds, the GOP keeps its upper hand in the House, though by a razor-thin margin. If the Dems win, there's an even 75-75 tie.

An update from the courts, from The Dallas Morning News:

Attorneys for the Republican and Democratic parties continued their arguments this morning in the court case surrounding a pending recount of the Texas House District 105 race. But attorneys representing Dallas County elections officials – who weren’t named as defendants until the second day of testimony today – have not filed any motions.

And the state district judge presiding over the case has yet to rule on whether he even has jurisdiction in the case.

Speaking of the increasing Democratic leverage on Capitol Hill, Burnt Orange Report crunches the numbers to show that Bell, Collin and Cameron counties are "turning blue" the fastest.
