State Board of Ed member says Obama criticism 'misconstrued'

Cynthia Dunbar, the state board of education member who accused Barack Obama of being light on terrorists, is now telling the Star-Telegram her opinions were "misconstrued through repetition." Really? I'd think that repeating an incendiary comment would only yield a deeper understanding of it.

But let's try an experiment. Let's see if it's at all possible to "misconstrue through repetition" Dunbar's thesis -- from the infamous column she wrote for a Christian Web site. (The column has since been removed, but the Star-Telegram has reprinted portions of it.)
"Can we truly even imagine an America under an Obama Administration? I sincerely believe that an Obama Administration would ultimately mean one thing . . . the end of America as we know her."

Yeah. I don't really know how we can "misconstrue" that. But let's repeat it again.
"Can we truly even imagine an America under an Obama Administration? I sincerely believe that an Obama Administration would ultimately mean one thing . . . the end of America as we know her."

Still seems pretty easy to understand to me. Another try:
"Can we truly even imagine an America under an Obama Administration? I sincerely believe that an Obama Administration would ultimately mean one thing . . . the end of America as we know her."

Um. This belief of hers isn't that subtle: Our new president will bring about the destruction of our country. Let's try reading it again, though.
"Can we truly even imagine an America under an Obama Administration? I sincerely believe that an Obama Administration would ultimately mean one thing . . . the end of America as we know her."

Still not "misconstruing" anything. One more time:
"Can we truly even imagine an America under an Obama Administration? I sincerely believe that an Obama Administration would ultimately mean one thing . . . the end of America as we know her."

We're not making any progress here. But ... what if we're just focusing on one hastily written sentence? Surely she didn't mean to suggest that landslide election of Barack Obama will bring about end times? Right?

Oh, wait.

Let's check out another excerpt from her column:
We have been clearly warned by his running mate, Joe Biden, that America will suffer some form of attack within the first six months of Obama’s administration. However, unlike Joe, I do not believe this "attack" will be a test of Obama’s mettle. Rather, I perceive it will be a planned effort by those with whom Obama truly sympathizes to take down the America that is threat to tyranny.

OK. I give up.

And hopefully Dunbar will too. If you actually think our country is on the verge of extinction because of who we elected president maybe you shouldn't be selecting textbooks for public school kids or deciding graduation requirements. Maybe you should be burning books and drowning suspected witches.

In any case, we'll give Frontburner the last word here: "She is up for re-election in 2010. Will somebody — anybody – please, please run against her?"
