As we speak, the State Board of Education is holding a public hearing in Austin on proposed changes to the science curriculum in Texas schools. Most of the debate is expected to center on how evolution is taught.

Which should make you very afraid.

The state Board of Education may well be the most dysfunctional agency in Texas -- with one member, Cynthia Dunbar, recently noting that Barack Obama will work with terrorist sympathizers to bring about the destruction of the United States. Dunbar's colleague, Gail Lowe is not much better. She has said that human beings have not contributed to global warming, while falsely implying that there is no scientific consensus supporting evolution.

So we're not too hopeful that today's debate on new science standards will, well, focus on science.

We'll get an update to you tomorrow.

Austin is getting some snow? Wow. It has been a really cold day for Houston, too.
