The University of Texas’ Texas Advanced Computing Center in Austin has the 6th and 58th fastest supercomputers in the world, according to a newly released listing of the 500 fastest such machines in the world.

The 6th fastest machine has a top processing speed of 433 teraflops, each of which is supposed to equal roughly 1,000 personal computers. The five supercomputers in the world that can outdo it are at Los Alamos, N.M. (two facilities there), Oak Ridge, Tenn.; Chicago; and NASA’s Ames Research Center in California.

The 58th fastest machine, also in Austin, tops out at 47 teraflops.

Check out the very cool graphic The New York Times has created comparing the computer power across the world.
