Today is the runoff election for state Senate District 17 --- which includes parts of Harris, Jefferson, Chambers, Galveston, Brazoria and Fort Bend counties.

Who's running? Former Congressman Chris Bell, a Democrat, faces Republican Joan Huffman, a former prosecutor and judge in the criminal courts in Harris County. The seat was once held by Republican Kyle Janek. None of the six candidates who ran for the seat on Nov. 4 garnered a majority. Bell and Huffman were the top vote-getters.

Can I vote? The district includes parts of Harris, Jefferson, Chambers, Galveston, Brazoria and Fort Bend counties. Check your voter registration card to see whether you're in the district, or contact your local election office. In Harris County, visit www.harrisvotes.com or call 713-755-696.

What if I didn't vote in November? As long as you are a registered voter in the district, you may vote in today's election. You may vote even if you didn't vote in November.

What time do the polls close? 7 p.m.
