A petition drive to stop a planned publicly owned hotel for the Dallas convention center will cost taxpayers $41,125.55, the Dallas Morning News reported today, citing public records.

From reporter Dave Levinthal:

Dallas taxpayers will foot a $41,125.55 bill for non-routine costs -- overtime, overhead, printing -- associated with the Dallas City Secretary's Office certifying a petition aiming to block City Hall's plans to construct a publicly owned Dallas Convention Center hotel through a May City Charter amendment referendum.

That includes $347.35 for office supplies, the story says.

The newspaper got the dollar details by asking for records from City Hall through the Texas Public Information Act.
