Texans have shelled out $2 million to cover the Mexico border with Web cams so that the border could be virtually "watched" by anyone on the Internet.
Here's what you got for your money, according to the El Paso Times: 13 cameras installed, 10 undocumented workers apprehended, one drug bust made and one smuggling route interrupted.
The newspaper used records obtained through the Texas Public Information Act to find out that $625,000 of the money has been spent.
From the story by Brandi Grissom:
Asked how taxpayers could judge whether the cameras were worth the $2 million Perry is spending, [Gov. Rick Perry's spokeswoman Katherine] Cesinger said only that taxpayers would "get" the concept of deterrence.
"They're smart and they understand," she said.
