Beaumont-area school system coughs up names of coach candidates

Remember my post from a couple of weeks ago about how the freedom of information laws help us find out about important things, large and small? Here's another example, this time from Beaumont: Freedom of information laws help you find out who's applied to be the head football coach at your kid's school, or whether the head coach at your kid's school has applied for a job with another school.

Sounds like The Beaumont Enterprise and a handful of other Beaumont-area news outlets stood on the Port Neches-Groves school district to get the system to cough up the list of people who applied for the athletic director/head football coaches' spot.

And guess who's on the list. From the story by The Enterprise's Christopher Dabe:

Eight head high school football coaches are among the 35 applicants for the vacant boys athletic director/head football coaching job at Port Neches-Groves, according to a list released Thursday by the PN-G ISD.

...

The PN-G ISD released the list of applicants after The Enterprise asked for an expedited ruling from the Attorney General's office. The district asked for a ruling Jan. 16, but the AG's office has as many as 45 days in which to make a ruling.

The Enterprise is one of five news outlets to request a list. The others were KFDM Channel 6, KBTV Channel 4, The Examiner Newspaper and the Port Arthur News. Collin Cobb of Chambers, Templeton, Cashiola and Thomas law firm also requested the list.

The Enterprise also has links to the AG's ruling, as well as the list of candidates.
