In an effort to "break the good ole boy system" behind the upcoming Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, state Sen. Mario Gallegos plans to file a bill requiring the rodeo to hire more minorities and comply with open records requests. The Houston Democrat told the Chronicle: “I want to know what they do with their money. They are the largest cash cow in Houston.”
The rodeo, which is a private nonprofit, brings in more than $80 million in revenues a year. You can see more about its activities, employees and fiscal achievements on its IRS Form 990, which you can see via this link thanks to Guidestar.org.
