The Dallas Morning News reports:
On his way to visit his dying mother-in-law, Houston Texans running back Ryan Moats ran a red light in his SUV within a hundred or so feet of the emergency room.
Dallas Police Officer Robert Powell pulled him over, and after the grief-stricken daughter of the dying woman exited the vehicle to see her mom one last time, Powell prevented Moats from going into the hospital.
Even after Moats explained to him that his mother-in-law was dying at that very minute, Powell detained him, lectured him and threatened to arrest him.
"I can screw you over," the officer told Moats, according to the Dallas Morning News. "I'd rather not do that."
The officer then checked to see if Moats had any outstanding warrants. He did not. A nurse, meanwhile, came out of the hospital to corroborate Moats' story, but it was too late. The woman, who had been suffering from breast cancer, had died.
The Dallas Morning News has more details of the traffic stop as well as video. Police officials tell the paper they will be investigating the officer's conduct.

I am disgusted by this “police officer”! His lack of compassion, common sense, and due diligence are truly lacking. Citizens should not tolerate this attitude. We the people pay his salary, we should demand his removal.
