Texas Watchdog is publishing today 99 pages of e-mails and various corresponece between Mayor Bill White and a downtown developer. (Hit the link, go to the bottom of the story, check out the links there and go to town.)
We highlight some of the interesting e-mails in our story, but we'd love to get more eyes on these documents. Please give them a read. And if you see anything interesting that you think deserves more digging, let us know.
We're not naturally suspicious. (Well, okay, we actually are.) But we only got focused on this issue when we asked the mayor for these documents and he turned us down cold.
In January, Texas Watchdog requested White’s correspondence in connection with Marvy Finger, the Houston developer behind the high-rise One Park Place, which sits across from a new downtown park. The mayor’s 2008 calendar was also included in the request.
White declined to release the information and instead sought an attorney general’s opinion.
Last week, the AG’s office ruled that information not pertaining to the mayor’s official role could be excluded along with certain third-party information.White released the e-mails Monday following a Texas Watchdog story about the mayor’s refusal to release any records, even those he agreed were public, until the AG opined on the matter.
We'd love to get your eyes on the e-mails -- and your suggestions on how to follow up. E-mail the writer on the story at rosanna@texaswatchdog.org or to our general account at news@texaswatchdog.org. Call 713-980-9777.
Take a gander at Mayor Bill White's e-mails; if you see anything that deserves looking into further, e-mail us
