Mayoral candidate Gene Locke sharply criticized opponent and City Controller Annise Parker on Thursday for a letter she wrote suggesting that a nonprofit affiliated with the Houston Airport System could cause the city severe financial problems.
At issue, Olson writes: Locke says Parker made a bigger deal of the HASDC issues than was necessary.
The letter Parker wrote caused the city to give a yellow-light to a planned sale of hundreds of millions of dollars in airport-related bonds. The city had to make some changes to its bond-sale literature to mention the HASDC issues so that possible bond buyers would have full disclosure of what was going on.
If you haven't been following our coverage lately, we've been writing quite a bit about the airport system's international work. Read our latest story published today or scroll through a list of all of our Houston Airport System-related stories.
