Texas will get a big stimulus check from Uncle Sam to help the poor make their homes more energy-efficient, KRIV FOX 26 reported Thursday night. The state's share will be $327 million, 60 times the amount it previously received, the station reports.
Houston is expected to receive $23 million of the cash infusion.
The station interviewed a manager of the weatherization program, a woman benefiting from the program and Texas Watchdog's editor, Trent Seibert.
"The worst-case scenario is that it wastes so much money you might as well weatherize your home with dollar bills," said Seibert. "This is a crazy amount of money. The potential for this to be a complete boondoggle is enormous."
View the complete report below, and check out this USA Today overview, which says some of the groups receiving stimulus aid have been faulted in the past for misspending tax dollars.
