For tips on the rules surrounding public records costs in Texas, check out the most recent Citizen Watchdog column in the Dallas Morning News:
Unlike many states, Texas has specific rules on what government agencies can charge for public records – though the law allows a few agencies to set their own prices.


As the writer points out, more information is available via the attorney general's Web site. The booklet "Public Information Act Made Easy," over on the right-hand side of the page, speaks to the issue of costs for copying and labor associated with access to public records. That section starts on page 20.
