Texans for Public Justice has filed ethics complaints with the state over two State Board of Education members taking gifts from a firm that wanted to do investment-related financial work for the school board. The liberal watchdog group points back to the story broken by the Dallas Morning News about the gifts: Rick Agosto got a $324 golf outing and Rene Nunez got a $729 football outing.

More from TPJ:

Neither Agosto nor Nunez reported any such gifts on their Personal Financial Disclosure statements covering 2008. TPJ filed the complaints to urge the Ethics Commission to determine if either board member had violated public disclosure laws.

They're not the only school board members out there getting free stuff. As Texas Watchdog reported last week, trustees of the Houston Independent School District also get freebies -- freebies that they're not required to report unless the gift-giver (or "host") fails to show. The freebies included tickets to last year's sellout Astros-Yankees games.
