Six Houston City Council candidates still haven't filed their ethics forms

Election Day is just around the corner -- Tuesday -- but still, six candidates for Houston City Council still have not turned in their personal financial statements, or, as I call them, "ethics forms."

C'mon, guys. Under state law, y'all were supposed to have filed by the 20th day after the qualifying deadline. That was weeks ago. Everyone else has filed.

There's a reason why candidates are required to fill out these forms: So that the public can see whether potential candidates have possible conflicts of interest or would otherwise benefit from city business. When you don't turn in your form, you're preventing the voters from going into the election with all the information they need to make a decision.

If you see any of these guys, tell 'em they need to get their forms over to the city secretary's office, will you?

+ Roger Bowden, candidate for City Council District B, running against incumbent Jarvis Johnson.
+ Larry McKinzie, candidate for City Council District D, running against incumbent Wanda Adams.
+ Wayne Garrison, candidate for City Council District E, running against incumbent Mike Sullivan.
+ Kenneth Perkins, candidate for City Council At-Large Position 1 (Peter Brown's seat).
+ Noel Freeman, candidate for City Council At-Large Position 4 (Ronald C. Green's seat).
+ Carlos Obando, candidate for City Council At-Large Position 5 (Jolanda Jones' seat).

We filed our report by mail within the specified time frame. Not sure what happened, but we are going to refile it in-person today.

Mr. Freeman, Thank you so much for the note. I can get a copy from the city secretary’s office, or, if you already have a copy in your computer, shoot me an attachment at jennifer@texaswatchdog.org and we’ll get it posted here. :) Take care, Jennifer P.
