The NewsRadio 740 KTRH AM morning team interviewed Texas Watchdog this morning about Houston Mayoral candidate Annise Parker about Parker making public her tax returns.
Right after the Nov. 3 election that led to the runoff, we asked for the tax returns of both Parker and opponent Gene Locke to see if there are any bright-line conflicts of interest.
We're still waiting to hear from Gene Locke.
Indeed, Texas Watchdog has asked Locke's campaign several times what it plans to do concerning the candidate's tax forms; the campaign has yet to call back or respond to emails.
Frankly, we just don't understand why we can't get an answer either way from the Locke campaign. Tax returns are not typically a public record, although politicians for major office (and some minor ones) are voluntarily making them public to assure voters they have no conflicts -- and to show they are committed to transparency.
