Last month we wrote about some unreported money – around $10,000 in checks - at the Harris County Republican Party for the first half of 2009.
The donations were listed on several contributors' political filings but did not appear on the appropriate campaign finance form for the party. Some of the money came from political heavy hitters, including state Attorney General Greg Abbott.
Our report was followed by a story in the Houston Chronicle and now, the party has filed an amended form.
“We reconciled our files with the bank report,” the party’s deputy director, Marc Cowart, told Texas Watchdog Monday.
“The money was not misplaced. It was never missing. The checks just did not appear on the report. Either they were overlooked or didn’t get saved properly in the system. Everything’s cool.”

Ya just can't whitewash this sorta thing. "Either they were overlooked or didn't get saved properly in the system". Who is this Cowart making this dumb statement? What in the tarnations does that mean? It means the Harris County GOP was either very sloppy and just misplaced over $10,000.00? How many in the business world or managing a household can just overlook $10,000.00? Office holders go to jail for this "irregularity". Is anyone awake over there or is everyone at the Woodfill Cheer-leading Practice? |
