Texas Watchdog's partners across the country in nonprofit journalism are producing really great investigative work.
You might have seen the power of our coalition, called the Investigative News Network, in the recent series on sexual assaults on college campuses, for which we all partnered with the Center for Public Integrity in Washington, D.C. But there's more to it than that.
Some recent highlights:
-
California Watch, a project from the Center for Investigative Reporting focused on watchdog journalism about California state government, recently had this report by staffer (and former Houston Chronicle reporter) Chase Davis:
Amid a crippling fiscal crisis, managers throughout California’s government have routinely allowed their employees to amass unused vacation time, enabling hundreds of workers to end their public-service careers with payouts topping $100,000, a California Watch investigation has found.
Other highlights include:
- The Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism at Brandeis University launched "Dishonorable Conduct," an investigative report about the Veterans Affairs system's lack of health care for female war veterans. The story appeared in this month's issue of Good Housekeeping.
-
And Voice of San Diego today has a good read with "The Crack Corner that Continues on."
