A public records request filed on a suspicion can sometimes bring nothing. But KCBD, the NBC affiliate in Lubbock, found that after doing a story on the abrupt, mysterious resignation of a Texas Tech Health Sciences Center professor in June, a request was in order.
Paydirt. The request yielded the reason for his departure -- click over to the story to see the details -- as well as a letter from the center’s president warning Rodney Hicks not to come to the campus or contact students.
While Hicks has not been judged in this case, the records are illuminating and show that a well-placed request can at least flag a potentially errant act and a possibly troubled public official.
