There's a big mess in Forney, Texas, and none of the parties involved want to talk about it. But it's costing taxpayers more than $1 million to try to straighten it out.

A report on the mess from WFAA-TV in Dallas is today's featured video on the Texas Watchdog home page.

Forney, if you don't know already, is a small town east of Dallas. Well, it's really east of Mesquite, which is east of Dallas. The antiques trade is very big there.

The city hired a contractor to do some expensive road work. But after paying the contractor $4 million, the city fired the contractor in a closed-door meeting, WFAA's David Shechter reports. Why? No one will say.

So now the contractor has important records of what work has been done, and the city needs those records to complete the job. To try to make sense of it all and finish it, the city has called in TXDOT, at a cost of $1.7 million, Shechter says.
