Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a left-leaning nonprofit government watchdog group, has compiled the list annually since 2005. The list includes 12 Republicans and seven Democrats.
The group’s goal in compiling the list:
It encompasses public officials who fail to act responsibly and ethically, and who instead place personal or special interests before those of the public. As always, members on this year’s list have abused their positions to benefit themselves, their families, and other associates.
After the connections were revealed in August of 2010, Johnson repaid the money and helped start a screening panel for the scholarships.
Barton, an Arlington Republican, earned almost $100,000 from an interest in gas wells sold to him by a campaign donor who gave him policy advice while he served on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
Barton, also unable to make the corruption A List, insisted at the time the deal posed no conflict of interest.
