Republican and Democratic leaders are expecting to win approval today from a panel of federal judges to move Texas primary elections to April 3 from March 6.
The Houston Chronicle just a few minutes ago posted the text of an agreement sent to the three-judge panel in San Antonio that includes county election officials getting voter registrations out in February and setting June 5 for primary runoffs.
Negotiators scrapped the unpopular idea of holding primaries on two dates in 2012 while the state awaits the outcome of a Supreme Court hearing on redistricting.
The federal judicial panel in San Antonio yesterday pushed back the deadline for candidates filing to run for office to 6 p.m. Monday.
