Texas Watchdog reporter Steve Miller has been nominated for the prestigious Edgar Allan Poe Award.

Miller is being recognized for his account of how a convicted double murderer dubbed “the female Charles Manson” escaped from the Indiana state penitentiary and eluded authorities for 136 days.

Check out Girl, Wanted: The Chase for Sarah Pender here.

Miller’s true crime thriller, published by Penguin last June, was nominated in the “Best Fact Crime” category. The Edgar awards are organized by the Mystery Writers of America, based in New York.

At Texas Watchdog, Miller has investigated money in politics at the local and state levels, vetted the promises made by government, and helped a Houston man cut through the red tape to get his city water bill reduced from $2,500 to $3.74. He’s also probed the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association, voter fraud in South Texas, and the tangled spinoffs of the Houston Airport System.

Learn more about Miller’s other ventures in this profile by the City Pulse of Lansing, Mich., and at Miller’s The Past is Present website.
