The War on Drugs may need a few changes in leadership.

The Fort Worth police announced last month that Austin Carpenter was among the 18 suspects in a drug roundup that included students at Texas Christian University. The cops proudly provided mug shots and distributed the warrants of those arrested.

But they had the wrong Austin Carpenter, instead naming the member of a prominent Dallas family. The error was corrected, and a new warrant for the correct Austin Carpenter was issued after it was pointed out.

But when a Dallas Morning News reporter asked for the new warrant, the city of Fort Worth kicked it over to the state attorney general’s office.

Until the wise reporter pointed out that the city had already handed out all the other warrants to the public. Oops. Here is the warrant for the man the cops think dealt drugs.

Given that one of the Fort Worth undercover officers swore under oath that the wrong Austin Carpenter was the guy who sold him some Xanax and hydrocodone, the massive error presents some major problems for the credibility of the case.
