A Galveston man pleaded guilty on Monday to hacking into the Texas Department of Public Safety website.

Higinio O. Ochoa III told a federal court in Austin that he was guilty of accessing protected computers without authorization and recklessly causing damage.

The same man also hacked into websites belonging to Houston County, Ala., the Alabama Department of Public Safety, and the West Virginia Chiefs of Police Association earlier this year, according to investigators.

Court documents show paint the picture of someone who got at least as much satisfaction from bragging about his acts on Twitter as from the acts themselves. Including these missives:

  • "Texas Dept. of safety Hacked By @AnonWOrmer”
  • "In case your intel guys are staying up too late, let me save you time. #Come #At #ME #bro"
  • "i pwnd all of houston countys datebase haaha"

Ochoa has been released on $50,000 bail pending sentencing, the Dothan Eagle reports. In the meantime, he is not allowed to have a computer or smartphone.

Law-enforcement authorities believe Ochoa III is affiliated with Anonymous, an Internet group that has hacked government websites and opposes cyber censorship, according to the Eagle.
