Galveston County’s district attorney has opened an investigation of county Commissioner Ken Clark, the Galveston Daily News has found.

District Attorney Jack Roady has hired Chuck Noll, former head of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office governmental investigations unit, as special prosecutor in the case, the Daily News reports. Noll also previously headed the DA’s public integrity division.

“The four-term county commissioner is accused of using his office for personal gain, pressuring county vendors for services for his or his family’s personal benefit as well as campaign finance irregularities,” the Daily News reports.

Clark has denied the allegations and has hired George Parnham to represent him. The Houston lawyer became nationally known in 2001 for defending Andrea Yates, a Clear Lake mother who drowned her five children in a bathtub and was found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Texas Watchdog reported in April that Clark failed to disclose his political consulting business in county conflict of information filings in 2006, and that the state of Texas has no record of Clark’s company on file.
