A Brookings Institution study released this week concluded that Houston ranked 82 out of the largest 100 U.S. metropolitan areas with respect to work locations near public transit.

Houston ranked 56 in the share of the population that could reach the office within 90 minutes, the report said.

Brookings is a nonprofit think tank based in Washington, D.C.

The Austin-Round Rock area didn’t fare much better than Houston in the first category, ranking 78. But it leapt to 28 in the second category.

The Dallas metro area, which includes Fort Worth and Arlington, was worse than both cities in both categories, ranking 81 in the first and 86 in the second.

San Antonio, it turns out, is the large Texan city to live in for public transit. It ranked 44 in the first category and 20 in the second.

No. 1 in the country for places of work near public transit is Los Angeles, according to the report. Salt Lake City placed first for workers to reach their place of employment within 90 minutes.
